Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy guides you into a very relaxed state (imagine similar to a guided meditation) where we then have a conversation with your subconscious mind tailored to your specific concern/goal. Did you know our subconscious mind operates 90-95% of all of our mental activity! This is why it can be difficult to break self-limiting beliefs and unwanted habits, because even though our conscious (logical) mind wishes to do so, our subconscious mind is really the one that holds the power. The subconscious mind stores all your beliefs, memories, perceptions, and habits. One of the most mind-blowing experiences of hypnotherapy is realizing you may logically think you know why you do XYZ or why you cannot break a habit or why you have a certain fear, but then when we go and talk to the subconscious mind, it often ends up being a completely different reason one was not expecting! Once we get to the root cause, we can then reframe your beliefs in a positive way to work for you!

What can I expect during a session?

During a hypnotherapy session we will first chat about what your goals with hypnotherapy are. If you are a new client, I will provide more in-depth information about hypnotherapy and answer any lingering questions. We will then go into the hypnosis session where I essentially guide you into a deeply relaxed meditative state. In this relaxed state we have a conversation with your subconscious mind to get to the root cause of your concern. We then reframe old ideas/beliefs/situations so you can live your best unblocked, true authentic life!

How many sessions does hypnotherapy take to be effective?

This is a really great question and is so individualized! Some people need only one session to break a habit, while others may need 10 or more. Studies have shown the average is about 6 for a particular topic, but it truly depends on your level of desire to make the change and how many hidden layers we unfold that are holding you back. This is because hypnotherapy is not magic and I cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. Hypnotherapy helps to form new neural pathways for the change you wish to see. This is why the number of sessions is so variable. I always recommend at least 3 sessions before you rule hypnotherapy in or out!

Is Hypnotherapy safe?

Yes hypnotherapy is very safe because we all go in and out of hypnotic states (the theta brain wave state) throughout the day. You remain in control throughout the hypnosis session. Therefore, if someone rings your doorbell while you are in a hypnotic state, you can easily emerge yourself and go and answer the door!

Hypnotherapy is not recommended for those with schizophrenia.

If you have a seizure disorder, getting clearance from your medical doctor is mandatory given hypnosis sessions guide you into a deeply relaxed state.

I have a strong mind and like to be in control. I don’t think I can be hypnotized?

This is a great question as many others have this same concern! In hypnotherapy, I guide you into a deeply relaxed state, which is the theta brain wave state. Did you know you are actually in and out of the theta brain wave state all throughout the day? Some examples include: when you are driving a regular route and find yourself zoning out every once in a while, on your way to sleep, on your way to waking up, and even when you are daydreaming! In hypnotherapy YOU are in control the entire time. This is why hypnotherapy is only effective if you truly desire the results - because no, I cannot make you do anything you don’t want to do!

So to answer your question- yes anyone and everyone can be hypnotized if they want to be hypnotized!

Is virtual hypnotherapy effective?

Yes! I find virtual hypnotherapy to be more effective than in person hypnotherapy. Why do I believe this is the case? Because you are likely able to relax more easily in the comfort of your own home/setting, especially when meeting for the first time!
